How we learnt our first language
(And there is a difference to the way we are learning a new language or a second language)
In simple words, a language consists of some common elements or features:
■ Vocabulary (lexic) – the words we use
■ Grammar – a structure we use to express functions such as present, past, future, active, passive etc.
■ Syntax – the word order when we speak or write a language
■ Orthography – the way to write correctly (no spelling errors)
■ Spelling – the way we write a language (the words)
■ Pronounciation – the way talk and pronouce the words of a language
■ Semantic – the level of „meaning“ and thus a more difficult concept behind language
