Functions of a
language
Our languages in principal have different
functions based on the four dimensions and the
elements a languages has:
■ Oral communication (speaking to each other)
■ Written communication (writing and reading)
■ Document and preserve knowledge (by
writing, storing, recording and archiving)
■ Artistic expression (the use of language by
artists, singers, comedians)
■ Academic use (the use of language by
scientists, philosophers, theologists, etc.)
